A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the correct login credentials are supplied. This can be a whole Internet site or just one page that's located within a subfolder. If you try to open this type of a directory, you'll see a web browser pop-up in which you have to type in a username and also a password. If you type the right ones, you can continue exploring the content with no need to do anything else. If the login credentials aren't correct, however, you'll see a message that you are not allowed to look at the content. In case this function is activated, you will not be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The option is extremely handy if you need to prohibit the access to some content or if you are developing a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a password-protected area shall take merely a few clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites inside a cloud website hosting account with us. You shall not need to do anything complicated - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be secured, and then to input the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login credentials, there won't be a problem to create a variety of different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is activated. If you would like to deactivate the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to protect any content you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it is a part of, so you'll not have to enter any code at any time. You'll only have to select one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the web hosting account and to select which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then enter the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be good to go. The protection will be activated straightaway, so anyone who tries to access the recently secured folder will have to type in the right login info. In case several individuals should be able to access precisely the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
