Any time you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically when the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that manages the emails for that particular domain address. The site and the e-mail hosting are usually regarded as one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having separate records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you would like. As an illustration, some new service provider might have outstanding uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the former and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an email - in any case, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account from our company and you want to point either your website or your e-mails to an alternative service provider, it will take you literally only two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is very easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you can click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you won't experience any issues if you wish to move your site or e-mails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you may also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
